Monday Motivation: Replace hesitation with action

Every Monday, The Rogers-Long Team meets for one of its two weekly meetings. The Monday meeting always ends with “Monday Motivation” in which a few minutes are spent listening to one team member presenting a quote, a quick reading from a book, a scene from a movie, or anything else they find motivating to provide a “spark” to the whole team on a Monday morning.
“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage.”
How much time do we spend talking ourselves out of doing something? Thinking about all of the ways it can go wrong? Putting off the difficult conversations? The longer we wait, the heavier it weighs on us. We spend too much time thinking about how others are going to react and we play the worst case scenario over and over again in our heads. We start to believe those negative thoughts. When we think negatively it affects the way we go about our day. The issue is constantly hovering over us and continues to creep into your thoughts. A simple way to combat this: Action.
By acting swiftly, we can prevent doubts and fear from hijacking the rest of our day. If there is a call that we are dreading making, do it now. If we have to deliver bad news, do it now. Everything we want, things that are holding us back, are all on the other side of fear. After we make that tough phone call or have that difficult conversation, everything else becomes easier and weighs less on us. Will those phone calls and conversations always go the way we wish? No, but it is now in the past and we can focus on the next task at hand. We replace hesitation with action and in turn, we develop confidence and courage. We are able to eliminate doubts and fears by choosing to address them before we let them occupy space in our minds.
