Do YOUR Thing!
Do you ever look at those around you and think to yourself “if I do everything they do, I can be in the position they are”? I suggest reconsidering that thought. Yes, you can pick up details on how they work, how they communicate, or how they react but don’t try to do it exactly as they do. Chances are, their personality is different than yours.
“Do your thing. Do it unapologetically.” If you see your coworker taking clients to coffee 2-3 days a week but you aren’t a coffee drinker, don’t try to force it. It will show. Maybe take someone to lunch instead. You have to be comfortable with what you are doing to gain the results others have.
I was talking to a good friend of mine, who was also one of my very first clients, and he was asking how everything was going with work. After going back and forth with stories, accomplishments, and a few challenges I’ve faced, he finished with something that really stuck with me: “Just remember, people are not going to work with you because of how many houses you have or haven’t sold, people are not going to work with you because of where you do or don’t work, people are going to work with you because you are you.”
You are where you are in life because of who you are. Your friends and the relationships you have started from you just being you. Why change that? Stay true to who you are and great things will come. No matter what, “don’t ever stop doing your thing”.
