[Episode 13] Easy to Chase the Bar, Hard to Set It: An Interview with Coach Deane Cheatham

[Episode 13] Easy to Chase the Bar, Hard to Set It: An Interview with Coach Deane Cheatham

Episode 13 of The Bottom Line by Ben Rogers features an interview with Deane Cheatham IV, an assistant football coach at Marshall University. Coach Cheatham is truly on the “front line”. Although his current job title is Assistant Coach at a Division 1 football program, what you’ll find is that it’s not always as pretty as it seems. Told from someone who is currently living in the process, you’ll see that there is no magic pill, and success will not be given. According to Deane, “The most difficult part of coaching is when you lose and you’re trying to find the answers within those losses…you can’t judge success off of the end result. We can watch the tape of a win and ignore all of the bad plays. We can ignore all of our mental errors, our mistakes. Or you can go through and look at it critically. Ignoring the end result (win or lose) is one of the hardest things to do, but it’s one of the most important things to do.”

Welcome to The Bottom Line by Ben Rogers, a Podcast that links lessons learned from sports, business, and life. The foundation of these recordings is built on my 3 Core Beliefs, The 5 C’s to Success, and The Bottom Line. There is no magic pill to success, there is no finish line – but there is a process. The process is where Excellence can be found, while Average sits on the bench. Episodes consist of short essays written and recorded by Ben Rogers, interviews with people who have decided not to live a life of mediocrity, or a combination of both. Thanks for listening.
