Monday Motivation: Macro Patience, Micro Speed

Monday Motivation, 1.22.18

Every Monday, The Rogers-Long Team meets for one of its two weekly meetings. The Monday meeting always ends with “Monday Motivation” in which a few minutes are spent listening to one team member presenting a quote, a quick reading from a book, a scene from a movie, or anything else they find motivating to provide a “spark” to the whole team on a Monday morning.
The Next 8 Days > The Next 8 Years
I’ve started reading a book called “Tribe of Mentors” by Tim Ferriss, a world-renowned author and podcaster. In this book, he interviews some of “the best in the world”, diving into their routines, tactics, and habits. The same 11 questions are asked of each guest, one of my favorites being “What advice would you give to a smart, driven college student about to enter the ‘real world'”?
In a chapter focused on entrepreneur, author, and speaker Gary Vaynerchuk, he answered this question by saying:
“Macro patience, micro speed. They should not care about the next eight years, but they should stress the next eight days. At a macro, I think everybody’s super impatient. I think I’m unbelievably patient in years and decades, and unbelievably sporadic and hyper every minute on a day-to-day basis. I genuinely think everybody’s the reverse. Everybody’s impatient at a macro, and just so patient at a micro, wasting your days worrying about years. I’m not worried about my years, because I’m squeezing the (expletive) out of my seconds, let alone my days. It’s going to work out.”
With that said, what are you doing with your days? Are you spending it worried about your years, or are you going to squeezing everything you can out of your seconds? This week, I encourage you to exercise macro patience, and micro speed. Get after it!
