Monday Motivation: Open Minds, Instead of Labels

Monday Motivation, 7.1.19

Every Monday, The Rogers-Long Team meets for one of its two weekly meetings. The Monday meeting always ends with “Monday Motivation” in which a few minutes are spent listening to one team member presenting a quote, a quick reading from a book, a scene from a movie, or anything else they find motivating to provide a “spark” to the whole team on a Monday morning.
Everyone you will ever meet knows something you don’t. We often times take others for granted. We are constantly surrounded by people with many different talents and skills. I think it is important to deepen relationships and learn from other’s knowledge and experiences. Our society is quick to label people, smart/dumb, success/failure, rich/poor. Can the “smart” person learn anything from the “dumb” person? Maybe they have had experiences in life that the other has not. We can learn from each other by approaching people with open minds, instead of labels. Take the time to listen to others before casting them off. You don’t know, what they know, who they know, or what they have gone through. Don’t predetermine someone’s value, talent, skills, before giving yourself an opportunity to learn from them. The more open minded we are with each other, the more likely we are to grow.
