Monday Motivation: Water Or Soda?

Monday Motivation, 7.29.19

Every Monday, The Rogers-Long Team meets for one of its two weekly meetings. The Monday meeting always ends with “Monday Motivation” in which a few minutes are spent listening to one team member presenting a quote, a quick reading from a book, a scene from a movie, or anything else they find motivating to provide a “spark” to the whole team on a Monday morning.
I was scrolling through Instagram the other day and came across this:
Be a bottle of water and not soda
The bottle is you. What’s inside is your emotions/reactions. The outside world and people are going to attack you and rattle/shake you from time to time. If you shake a bottle of soda, when you finally open up you’re going to explode. But if you shake a water bottle, once you open up it’s the same calm water it was before it got shook up.
I took a screen shot of it and knew it would be a good Monday Motivation. Sounds simple right?
When you are shaken by those around you, when you feel like your spirit is destroyed, when everything seems to be going wrong, are you going to be the soda or the water? Don’t let other people, and this world disrupt you. How you react? How you choose to be? Everyone has a choice of how others around them affect them.
I have 3 kids, I am shaken every day. It is hard to not explode. We deal with people in business who do not operate the way that we do. It is hard not to explode. It’s hard, very hard to block out other people and the outside from disrupting you sometimes. Control what you can control.
But don’t leave your feelings bottled up to explode. Don’t walk away from the situation and ignore it, deal with it, calmly. And remember that you can only control your thoughts, your feelings, your reactions. Not anyone else’s. So be the water!
Dawn Paciocco joined The Rogers-Long Team in September 2018 as the team’s Client Care Coordinator. Dawn spent 17 years in the financial services industry and much like Stacy, was first a client of Ben & Kevin’s before joining the team. After a couple years discussing the possibility of Dawn joining, The RLT excitedly brought her on due to her fun-loving attitude and belief in the team’s mission to build an army of people that does good, becomes better, and strives to be the best.
