Monday Motivation: Change The Formula

Monday Motivation, 8.12.19

Every Monday, The Rogers-Long Team meets for one of its two weekly meetings. The Monday meeting always ends with “Monday Motivation” in which a few minutes are spent listening to one team member presenting a quote, a quick reading from a book, a scene from a movie, or anything else they find motivating to provide a “spark” to the whole team on a Monday morning.
“You’re not stuck. You’re just committed to certain patterns of behavior because they helped you in the past. Now those behaviors have become more harmful than helpful. The reason why you can’t move forward is because you keep applying an old formula to a new level in your life. Change the formula to get a different result.” – Emily Maroutian
My husband read me this quote a few weeks back as we were beginning a weight loss competition with some of our friends. Being someone who has never been the greatest at dieting (only for lack of self-control), I found myself complaining I had only lost 1-2 pounds in a 2 week span. Let’s be honest, hitting a quick drive through for lunch or choosing the potatoes over veggies was not helping. While it was very helpful for motivation at that time, I realized that this was something you could apply to any challenge you’re currently facing. Your current behavior is what led you to your current state, however, in order to continuing moving forward you have to change something you’re doing. If you’re hesitant to make a large change, start with something small. But make the change. I challenge you to take a few minutes out of your morning to stop and ask yourself what is something you wish you could do differently? How can you improve in that? What is something small you can change that will help you to continue to grow?
