Monday Motivation: It All Begins With You!

Every Monday, The Rogers-Long Team meets for one of its two weekly meetings. The Monday meeting always ends with “Monday Motivation” in which a few minutes are spent listening to one team member presenting a quote, a quick reading from a book, a scene from a movie, or anything else they find motivating to provide a “spark” to the whole team on a Monday morning.
Often for Monday Motivation I often put out a challenge to go out there to do a good deed, to pay if forward or be someone’s touchstone, but I have left out the most important piece of these tasks, you. “It all begins with you. If you do not care for yourself, you will not be strong enough to take care of anything in life.”
So we try to take care of ourselves in a variety of ways and for the most part we take care of the physical parts of our body. We exercise, eat right and care for our outer appearance but often we forget the mental portion of our bodies, our minds.
We must take care of our minds, mental fitness can be comprised of a variety of activities: reading, finding ways to challenge your intellect & memory, taking up a new hobby and relaxing but there is a key element missing and often overlooked when discussing keeping our minds healthy, the mental portion of our bodies in shape and that is remembering to compliment yourself, say something positive.
It is absolutely 100% ok to believe in yourself! Sure, we love to hear someone give us a compliment, it’s a great little rush but guess what!, you don’t have to wait for someone else to hand you a note of positivity, you can give that to yourself too and you deserve it. “Confidence is something you create within yourself by believing in who you are”. Every time you have a negative thought about yourself or something you did you need to balance that negativity out with a positive thought about yourself. Something funny I read regarding being negative, “the tell negative committee that meets inside your head to sit down and shut up”.
Being positive about yourself displays confidence, not arrogance so do not confuse the two. “There is a thing line between confidence and arrogance called humility. Confidence smiles. Arrogance Smirks”. Embrace your strengths and your weaknesses. Having a positive attitude about yourself does not make you better than anyone it reminds you that no one is better than you.
In no way am I a practitioner on saying or being positive about myself, but that changes today. If this is something that you need then I challenge you to a 30 day challenge of waking up each morning and saying something positive about yourself and then before your fall asleep do the same thing. What kind of impact will that have on your life? At the basic level, it can’t hurt and I would expect positive things to happen.
“Keep your thoughts positive because your thoughts become your words. Keep your words positive because your words become your behavior. Keep your behaviors positive because your behavior becomes your habits/ Keep your habits positive because your habits become your values. Keep your values positive because your values become your destiny.” -Mahatma Gandhi
And it’s never to late for your destiny.
