Monday Motivation: Something Not Nothing!

Every Monday, The Rogers-Long Team meets for one of its two weekly meetings. The Monday meeting always ends with “Monday Motivation” in which a few minutes are spent listening to one team member presenting a quote, a quick reading from a book, a scene from a movie, or anything else they find motivating to provide a “spark” to the whole team on a Monday morning.
There is only one way to avoid criticism: Do nothing, say nothing, be nothing. ~Aristotle
I am not perfect. You are not perfect. Don’t let the fear of making a mistake cause you not to live your life, take chances or challenging yourself. In today’s age, people live their lives based off of what others think. “If I do X, then people will think a certain way about me.” We let what others may think, dictate too much of our lives. It is your life. Live it.
Criticism doesn’t kill us. It gives us an opportunity to reflect and grow. How we react to criticism is the important part. Do we crawl back into a shell because someone has a differing opinion? Or do we take that criticism, learn from it and continue to push forward? Criticism should be embraced. Will always be constructive criticism? Most definitely not.
I get to choose how I react to criticism. I determine my thoughts and actions. I am the gatekeeper. I can get caught up in it. I can shut down. I can sling the mud. I can let it roll off my back. I can learn from it. I can flourish from it. I get to choose how I handle it. What I cannot do, is be afraid of it.
I will make mistakes. I will fail. I will not let outside voices determine how I get back up, how I persevere, how I learn, how I grow. I am not only the gate keeper of my mind, but also the captain of my ship, my life.
I will do something. I will say something. I will be something.
