Monday Motivation: Humble & Hungry

Monday Motivation, 1.4.2021

Every Monday, The Rogers-Long Team meets for one of its two weekly meetings. The Monday meeting always ends with “Monday Motivation” in which a few minutes are spent listening to one team member presenting a quote, a quick reading from a book, a scene from a movie, or anything else they find motivating to provide a “spark” to the whole team on a Monday morning.
Hind sight is 2020, we’ve all seen this meme by now, but is it something to take to heart?
As we enter the new year, we just think things will magically change. Yes, the odometer on the year rolled to 2021 but other than writing the new year on a check or a form, nothing really changes. The virus is still lingering out there, political fights are still happening, your bad habits are still around, so why do we think a new year on the calendar will grants us a better year than last?
Motivation is why, as we reflect on last year and all the ups and downs it brought, the bad habits we kept but keep admonishing ourselves for and then regretting what we did and did not do. Allow the New Year resolution tradition to push you and motivate you to make changes.
Resolutions hardly stick for most people but if you are to make one let this be the year. Why not? 2020, to put it lightly, was abysmal for most people for more reasons than I can list, from the serious to having to watch Tiger King.
So, let us make 2021 the resolutions stick, let it be the year you are motivated to make the changes you want and reach the goals you thought were out of reach. It is our way of seeking revenge on 2020 and showing it, we are not rattled, we are not down. Changes did not have to start on 1/1 for you to be successful, but now is the moment to get your shit together, compose yourself and make those changes, build new habits, reach your goals. Do not give up when you take a step back, learn from it, regroup, and press forward.
“Today is the first day of the rest of your life”. Use this mindset for long term goals as well, they may feel far away, but starting today keeps you one step closer. “Don’t let life discourage you everyone who got where they are had to start where they were”
What we have lived through in this past year is something we will never forget; it has changed us all. AS we step into 2021, stayed focused on the positive things and in the great words of Sean McDermott, “Stay humble and hungry”. Stay humble means to keep yourself in check, stay hungry means to keep at it. If any of this seems like hogwash or gibberish to you, look at the Buffalo Bills, 4 years ago he took the mindset of “Today is the first day of the rest of your life”. He had a process, implemented it, and has succeeded from it.
Stay focused, stay kind and stay humble and hungry.

PS. Don’t forget your charities!!! For example, January is one of the greatest demands on food pantries, so keep donating and paying it forward, holidays are over but not being charitable. Also EAT LOCALLY, support your locally owned restaurants, they need us more than ever.
